How to Search Cases by Name
The free name option on the County 15 date docket covers setting dates only. It does not cover the full history of Winston County court records. Pick one of the dates shown first. Then type a last name. Or leave the box blank to pull the whole docket for that date. Want a real case-level name search instead? Use the paid statewide service. Or ask the Winston County Circuit Clerk to pull the public file for you.
- Identify Circuit, District, municipal, or probate court from the newest paperwork.
- For an upcoming setting, open the Winston Search Docket and choose the relevant displayed date.
- Enter the surname. If it does not appear, leave Last Name blank and review the complete published list for that date.
- For a wider name query, sign in to AlacourtACCESS / Just One Look and accept its current account and fee terms.
- Match the court, division, case type, and other public details before treating a result as the intended case.
- Verify an unclear result with the clerk rather than relying on name alone.
County 15 search fields are fixed; do not try to add controls or guess extra ones.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Options / Format Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| County | Fixed display | Yes | Value is 15 from the scoped LOC=15 address; it is not editable. |
| Setting Date | Dropdown | Implied yes | The inspected form displayed five consecutive dates. |
| Last Name | Text | No | Leave blank to return the entire available docket. |
Winston County Date-Name Lookup
The County 15 form does one narrow job well. It builds a PDF list of cases for a single near-term setting date, nothing more. There is no first-name, case-number, court-type, judge, courtroom, status, date-range, export, or sort control anywhere on it. That limit matters. If a surname does not hit, switch channels. If the date falls outside the published window, switch channels rather than inventing search syntax.
The official Winston setting search warns that some cases may not appear electronically. Heeding that warning and confirming directly is part of any sound Winston County case lookup. The PDF itself can contain live party names. So stick to your own matter or one specific public case and do not copy unrelated data.
Note: Leaving Last Name blank only widens the list for the date you chose. It does not create a historical Winston County case search.
How to Search by Case Number
When you know a case number, it is the strongest Winston County lookup key there is. Copy every digit, hyphen, and division code exactly as printed. Alabama-supported prefixes include CC for Circuit criminal, CV for Circuit civil, DV for District civil, SM for small claims, DR for domestic relations, and CS for child support. Never guess at a digit pattern in place of a real file number.
A felony can start in District Court under one track. It can pick up a Circuit criminal number after indictment. A municipal appeal or a civil transfer can also generate a new file in the receiving court. Keep both numbers. Ask the Winston County Circuit Clerk to cross-reference them. Searching only the newer number may hide the earlier steps of the case, because the older track stays under its own file.
Winston County Statewide Case Portal
Alabama runs a paid on-demand service called Just One Look for State Trial Court records. One subscription tier reaches civil, small claims, domestic relations, child support, criminal, and state traffic dockets. Depending on the record and access rules, results can include settings, actions or rulings, party names, a Case Action Summary, financial details, and document images. Pricing is listed two ways. A $9.99 name or case-number search comes with one case detail included. Extra detail runs $9.99 per case. Check the current terms before you pay. For the official entry point, use the official Just One Look screen, which shows the service's own sign-in and pricing details.
This portal is the statewide route for case-level docket research in Winston County. A login wall stands in front of it. The actual search fields only appear after you sign in. Work with the controls the portal presents to you rather than guessing at filters. Any key finding should still be checked against the clerk's official court record.
What a Case Search Shows
A Winston County case lookup usually starts with identity and then moves to chronology. The docket, or Case Action Summary, is an index. It tells you what happened in a case, not the full text of every filing. An entry labeled "Order" proves the court entered an order, but the signed image or a clerk copy holds its actual terms. Alabama court rules and local system descriptions support this general inventory, which does not rest on any private sample case.
| Case Number | The court's unique identifier, including the exact division prefix and punctuation. |
|---|---|
| Style / Parties | The formal caption and public party roles, such as plaintiff and defendant. |
| Case Type | The division or category, including criminal, civil, small claims, domestic, or child support. |
| Filed Date | The date the action began in that court, which is distinct from later event and hearing dates. |
| Status | The current case state or disposition, subject to later entries and charge-level differences. |
| Chronology | Filings, process, settings, orders, disposition, money entries, and appeal activity when public. |
| Images | Some filed items may be offered according to account and access rules; an event label does not guarantee an image. |
Read the newest setting and outcome entries with care. "Plea day" is only a setting, not proof of a guilty plea. A "Motion filed" entry means a request was made, never that it was granted. A closed label may sit on the docket. The signed judgment or charge-level result can still need explaining.
Winston County Search System Roles
Alabama gives you several tools, and they do different jobs. AlaFile is where authorized filers send electronic filings. AlacourtPlus helps clerks and judges handle their side of the work. For reading, Alacourt.com offers subscription access. Just One Look sells public access one case at a time. One caution matters here. A receipt from AlaFile only proves the filing went through that channel. It does not prove the clerk accepted the item or entered it on the official Winston County docket.
The state built this system in steps. Civil e-filing was authorized in 2005. A broad attorney mandate followed in 2012, with criminal and juvenile procedures added later. The Winston County clerk reports that local records are electronically imaged. Still, each piece stays separate. The filing channel, public search, courthouse viewing, and certified-copy process remain distinct products rather than one merged service.
County vs Statewide Case Search
Ask what you need before picking a tool. The free county docket and the paid statewide service overlap only when you already know a setting date, so the question you are asking should drive the choice. The clerk counter is the third route. It stays essential for older files, filed images, public inspection, and official copies.
| Channel | Best Use | Key Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Winston Search Docket | One of the listed near-term court dates | Not a complete history; some cases may be omitted |
| Just One Look | Paid statewide name or case-number lookup | Account and current fees apply; image access can vary |
| Clerk office | Free public electronic viewing, older files, images, verification, copies | Confidentiality and sealing rules still apply |
| Municipal or Probate clerk | City ordinance, city traffic, estates, and probate matters | Outside the Circuit Clerk's main trial-court custody |
Both tools are convenience layers. Neither one substitutes for a certified Winston County court record when official proof is required.
Free Winston County Case Viewing
Alabama's Rules of Court-Record Privacy and Confidentiality took effect in 2025. Rule 401 does the generous thing. It opens the electronic docket and filed District and Circuit records to free public viewing at the clerk's office, during regular hours, subject to confidentiality rules and specific court orders. Winston County Circuit Clerk J.D. Snoddy keeps the records for both state trial courts. You will find the office at the Winston County courthouse in Double Springs, with mail to P.O. Box 309, Double Springs, AL 35553, and a phone line at 205-489-5533. Doors open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. They close from noon to 1:00 p.m. Ask for the public electronic docket or the filed item you want. Viewing is free. Copies and certification may still carry fees.
Missing Winston County Case Results
An empty result has many explanations. Spelling slips, the wrong court, a municipal or probate file, an older record, the five-date calendar limit, confidentiality, expungement, or a seal can all hide a Winston County case. Check the court first and search by case number. Then ask the clerk whether any public part of the file exists. Absence online never proves a seal.
A docket event with no image needs a follow-up. Give the title and date when you request the underlying item through the Winston County court record search. You can ask for inspection, a plain copy, or a certified copy. A court reporter handles word-for-word transcripts of spoken proceedings, not the clerk.
Municipal citations can differ. The city clerk may hold a citation even when the location is inside Winston County.
Winston County Case Search Limits
Just One Look puts account and payment steps in front of any case-level result. You cannot inspect a case without signing in and paying. The public landing material advertises searches by name or case number plus access to trial-court data. It says nothing firm about Winston County divisions. Trust the labels in the live account. No outside field list can promise that. Filters, dropdowns, images, and case fields may differ from one Winston County division to another.
The same caution applies to result detail. A typical case history may name the court, the parties, an event chronology, settings, case type, disposition, and public financial activity. Access varies by division and permission. An event label still does not promise a document image. Note the event title and date. Then ask the Winston County Circuit Clerk for free counter viewing or a quoted copy when the paid screen omits a filing you need.
Restricted Cases and Access Rules
Ordinary Winston County District and Circuit files are public, subject to redaction and court orders. Juvenile petitions are not. Motions, notices, orders, and social records in those matters stay confidential. The rule is Alabama Code section 12-15-133. The same goes for adoption files, youthful-offender records, expunged criminal matters, protected addresses, and judge-sealed content. Those sit outside ordinary public access.
Public does not mean unredacted. Alabama Rule of Civil Procedure 5.1 limits Social Security, taxpayer, and financial-account numbers in public filings.
An authorized person may ask the clerk about the lawful access procedure, but a paid search or copy fee cannot override a seal.
Use the public search to follow your own case, confirm a court date, understand a court action, research history, or track a public matter. The clerk is the last word. Verify results with the originating clerk.
